While many of the paintings resemble the places they depict, they are a combination of different photographs, drawings, memories and dreams that all come together to create the finished painting.  I’ll start with an initial premise, for example a cruise ship deck party, then start constructing the image and space by collaging my sources.  During the process of making the paintings, I add things, move things and take things away.  It could be people, rocks, trees, props or entire sections.  I may scratch the whole side of a painting, and then insert something completely new.  I also just plain make stuff up, adding whole passages to transition from place to place.

At first glance, I’d like them to be convincing, even though they are pieced together.  Then with a bit of time perhaps you notice they are a little different, but with an equivalent beauty to the real thing.
